Before this shrimp ever touched the seabed, it drifted in open water for months.
It hatches not as a tiny shrimp but as a transparent, spiny, unrecognisable larva. It rises into the plankton and drifts with the currents for two to three months — moulting, growing, going wherever the water takes it. And because it drifts rather than swims, the currents decide where the next generation settles. Not the parents. The sea.
It didn’t choose where its life would happen. The ocean chose for it.
